Providence, Rhode Island Mayor Smiley calls for removal of mural honoring Iryna Zarutska
Before you ask, yes he is.
The Backstory - March 27th, 2026
Last summer, a 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee named Iryna Zarutska had her throat slashed by a Negro career felon who was given several slaps on the wrist prior to his decision to brutalize her. The reason why he did it? She was White. Charlotte, where the incident happened, has been a hot bed of Negro on White crime ever since.
In Providence, Rhode Island, a massive new mural in what’s called the “Creative Capital” has caused intense controversy.1 The mural, located on the backside of The Dark Lady, a well-known gay club in downtown Providence (especially to the mayor), depicts Iryna and displays a dedication to her.
The artwork is nearly complete, but the project is now on hold as identity politics become a front and center issue again.
Clubgoer Lex Conaway had this to say:
“Where are the murals for everyone that died for Black Lives Matter? I haven’t seen any of those.”
Iryna’s death is the consequence of lenient courts and politicians in Democrat-run cities that have allowed Negroes to run amuck in their cities. This is a direct result of racially aware Whites becoming a minority in their own neighborhoods.
Additionally, billionaire Elon Musk is funding a sizeable portion of the nationwide mural project, which spans from New York to California.
Conway had this to say:
“He can support a white woman in America. What about the Black women in America that are dying every day on the streets?”
The mural’s artist, Ian Gaudreau, said he was moved by Iryna’s story after a friend shared a post about the mural initiative.
Gaudreau stated:
“I think everybody was pretty moved by the way that she was just so publicly murdered. Just the fear in her eyes and the fact that nobody came to hold her hand while she took her last breaths was just pretty horrific.”
In response to the backlash, club owners Randy and Buck issued a statement clarifying their position and the intent behind the art:
“This specific mural was created for our community to honor Iryna’s memory, mental wellness, LGBTQIA+ rights, immigration, the war, unity, and anti-Trump policies. The project is temporarily paused. We will be releasing the final rendering of the project to the public for the TRUE meaning to be understood. We’re sorry for the chaos this has caused. We are progressive Democrats, we do not support Donald Trump or politics of division, and our values are deeply rooted in inclusion, equality, and respect.”
For clarification, it was never confirmed that Iryna was a progressive voter. Iryna’s brutal murder is not a right/left political issue, it is a racial issue and they don’t want us talking about it.
Local resident Nicholas Bassett lamented the friction the art has caused in a city known for its vibrant creative scene.
Bassett stated:
“Providence, being the creative capital, let’s keep politics out of it. Let the art speak for itself.”
The Mayor’s Office distanced the city from the project, stating:
“The mural currently being installed at 19 Snow St. has not been commissioned or funded by the City of Providence. At this time, neither the property owner or the artist has registered the work with the City.”
The Story - March 29th, 2026
Only a couple of days after the Mayor’s office had made comments about the mural, Mayor Brett Smiley has called for the artwork to be removed.2
He released the following statement:
“The murder of the individual depicted in this mural was a devastating tragedy, but the misguided, isolating intent of those funding murals like the one across the county is divisive and does not represent Providence. I continue to encourage our community to support local artists whose work brings us closer together rather than divide us.”’
Smiley’s grandfather was a German-born jew and Smiley was raised in the United Church of Christ, before converting to Reformed Judaism in 2024.3
It’s no wonder why he sees this mural in dedication to the White victim of a race crime as problematic. If we start accepting racial views, Smiley, whose family hid amongst Whites as Christians and “fellow Whites,” jews would be considered outsiders to White-Americans. This isn’t about politics, this is about race.
Jennifer Cross, a local resident, had this to say:
“Here in Rhode Island, in Providence, this is what we're about. We should be accepting of everything and take politics aside, honor all of the people who need to be honored, and just stop. I know the divisiveness of today's politics... but stop. Let it go forward. She needs to be honored.”
The Mayor’s Office has not yet specified the legal or any regulatory grounds for the removal request, but it will be coming soon.
