In this special, I review and add commentary to my debate with Pinesap (Feelsguy) on the Papacy.
Topics
Papal Infallibility — the Catholic doctrine that the Pope is preserved from error when he definitively teaches a doctrine concerning faith or morals under specific conditions.
Papal Supremacy — the Catholic doctrine that the Pope, as Bishop of Rome and successor to St. Peter, possesses supreme and universal authority over the Catholic Church.
Filioque — one of the most important theological disagreements between Western Catholic Christianity and Eastern Orthodoxy. The word filioque is Latin for “and the Son.” Catholic theology teaches that the Holy Spirit proceeds eternally from both the Father and the Son, while maintaining that the Father remains the ultimate source (principle) within the Trinity.
Key Takeaway
This episode examines three of the central theological and ecclesiastical disputes between Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy: Papal Infallibility, Papal Supremacy, and the Filioque. We explore the Catholic and Orthodox positions on papal authority and the procession of the Holy Spirit, as well as how these disagreements contributed to the centuries-long division between East and West.
